Lockheed Martin has delivered the core propulsion module of the second satellite in the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) military communications system.

The propulsion system is essential for manoeuvring the satellite during transfer orbit to its final location as well as conducting on-orbit repositioning manoeuvres throughout its mission life, Lockheed says.

The AEHF system will provide global, highly secure, protected communications for all US Department of Defence warfighters.

The delivery follows the satellites’ successful baseline integrated system test, establishing a performance baseline for environmental testing, including acoustic and thermal vacuum testing last month.
