Australia has acquired a new anti-tank artillery round which self destructs if no target is detected, at a cost of A$14m.
The SMArt 155 is a sensor-fused precision munition for use against tanks and other armoured vehicles.
Each artillery shell delivers two sensor-fused projectiles.
Developed by German firm Gesellschaft, the SMArt 155 incorporates a redundant self-destruct mechanism which activates if a target is not detected, eliminating the potential threat to civilians.
