BAE Systems has demonstrated a prototype magnetic power system for military vehicles.
The common modular power system (CMPS), shown at the US National Defence Industrial Association’s Power and Energy Symposium, is designed to provide military tactical wheeled vehicles with onboard and exportable power, Military and Aerospace Electronics reports.
The system uses a permanent-magnet generator, to deliver up to 400 amps of 28V DC electric power at low engine speed.
Demonstrated on a Humvee, the system delivers enough power to operate electronic warfare, situational awareness and communications systems.
