The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected the Raytheon BBN Technologies Boomerang shooter detection system to alert troops of incoming small arms fire.

The company will deliver Boomerang perimeter defence and vehicle systems through a contract with UK Maxord Ballistics.

The detection system uses passive acoustic detection and computer-based signal processing to locate the enemy shooter as well as alert troops to incoming hostile fire.

Currently, the system is employed by US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
