The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) will soon be equipped with Othello, a new rocket launch detection system, which will allow the forces to respond immediately to rocket fire.

The Othello system, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, identifies the optical signature of rockets, anti-tank missiles and artillery during launches and can also determine the launch site in real time.

Currently, the system is in advanced stages of testing and can be installed on armoured combat vehicles, light tactical vehicles and airborne platforms.

A small robotic platform, Rex, is also being developed for the Israeli Army.

Rex is capable of carrying 200kg, can operate for 72 hours without refuelling and is designed to accompany soldiers during missions by following the virtual path left by them.
