SRI International has been selected by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to design a Visual Intelligence Grounded in Learning (VIGIL) system for its Mind’s Eye programme.
VIGIL is a smart camera system that can be quickly deployed in unmanned vehicles (UVs) stationed in areas under automatic surveillance.
The visual intelligence system will automatically analyse areas of interest to interpret behaviour and identify potential threats from video data while safeguarding the armed forces.
The system will require minimal human supervision and will be integrated with other components of the Mind’s Eye programme that are being developed by other research teams.
The SRI team includes the University of Leeds, UK, and the University of Maryland, US, which are currently working on overcoming the challenges associated with the deployment of the system.
