Honeywell has been awarded a contract by the US Army Program Executive Office (PEO) to provide advanced ballistic materials for combat helmets.
Under the three-year contract, the company will build and deliver helmets with next-generation Spectra Shield and Gold Shield ballistic materials.
The US Army will then test and evaluate the materials’ ability to improve performance and reduce the weight of the soldier combat helmets.
The US military is reducing the weight of soldiers’ body armour to provide greater mobility to the warfighter in dangerous situations.
Helmets are designed to protect the soldier from projectile impacts and shockwaves from improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
