AxleTech International, a General Dynamics company, has been awarded a contract by Textron Marine & Land Systems to produce independent suspension axle systems for the US Army medium armoured security vehicle (ASV) programme.

Under the contract, the company will supply 240 vehicle sets of the axle systems, which is a customised variant of AxleTech’s 4000 and 5000 series planetary independent suspension axle systems.

AxleTech International vice-president and general manager Gerry Giudici said the upgraded independent suspension system would provide superior mobility for the MASV in the rugged Afghanistan terrain.

The US Army had awarded a contract to Textron Marine & Land Systems to produce up to 440 vehicles for the Afghan National Army.

The combat-proven M1117 armoured security vehicles and M1200 Armored Knight provide enhanced protection to the troops to perform various roles and missions.

Currently, the US Army operates more than 3,100 ASVs.
