The US Army has received the first two Lockheed Martin-built terminal high-altitude area defence (THAAD) missiles.
The two missiles have been stationed at the Anniston Defense Munitions Center (ADMC), which is responsible for maintaining, shipping and escorting the missiles to their destination.
The THAAD missile system has been designed to intercept and destroy short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles.
THAAD, unlike traditional missiles, uses kinetic energy to directly hit and destroy the enemy target.
