BAE Systems has been awarded an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract for Link-16 software in-service support (SwISS) for the US joint tactical radio system (JTRS).

The $9.4m contract is expected to reach $24.3m if all options are exercised and includes technical support, enhancements, maintenance and upgrades to the JTRS Link-16 waveform software.

BAE Link-16 systems programme director Michael Beltrani said Link-16 was crucial for US and international interoperability and the contract would deliver enhancements for effective battlefield communication.

The JTRS programme fields interoperable, software-defined radios across multiple military platforms.

Work will be completed by BAE Systems Communications & Network Solutions, with an expected completion date of the end of 2011.
