Orbit Communication has been awarded an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract by the US Army for production and delivery of voice altitude warning systems (VAWS).

Under the $5m IDIQ contract, the US army will use VAWS for its combat deployed UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

Orbit VAWS are combined with the audio management system of the helicopter to increase the operational flight safety during combat missions in critical areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

The system provides commercial-off-the-shelf solutions for airborne fixed wing, rotary, and seaborne applications.

Deliveries of the first batch of VAWS is scheduled to take place during 2011.
