Russia will reveal details of a new mobile short-range air defence system at Aero India 2011, the air show being held from 9-13 February in Bengaluru, India.

“The [Kolomna-based] Engineering Design Bureau will present for the first time details of a new ultra-short-range air defence system based on the Strelets launcher for the portable Igla missiles,” Russia’s Federal Service said.

The Strelets multiple launcher unit has been designed for use with the 9M39 Igla and Igla-1 missiles.

The unit provides an automatic remote launch capability in either single-round or salvo modes when mounted on various launch platforms, according to RIA Novosti.

Russia will be represented by 35 companies, including MiG, Sukhoi, Almaz-Antei and Engineering Design Bureau, and will exhibit 80 types of weaponry at the upcoming show.
