The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a follow-on contract to DRS for heavy weapon thermal sights (HWTS).

HWTS are equipped with 25-micron, uncooled Vanadium Oxide technology, a 103mm telescope and 3X e-zoom capability to provide enhanced visibility and survivability to the warfighter.

The lightweight, affordable and reliable sights can be used for a range of man-portable applications, including mounting on weapons carried by individual warfighters.

Work will be carried out by the company's facilities in Melbourne, Florida and Texas in the US.

Deliveries for the $21m order have already begun and will continue to 2013.
