Raytheon has received a $145m production contract for Patriot guidance enhanced missiles – tactical (GEM-T) to increase Kuwait’s air and missile defence.
The contract has been awarded by the US Army Aviation and Missile Command under the foreign military sales programme and to complement Kuwait’s Configuration-3 radar system upgrade work.
Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Patriot programmes vice-president Sanjay Kapoor said the new contract would provide Kuwait with increased system reliability and reduced lifecycle costs.
“This new GEM-T missile production contract highlights the efforts by Kuwait Air Defence to maintain readiness and effectiveness of the Patriot Air and Missile System to counter evolving regional threats,” he added.
Work will be carried out by IDS at the Integrated Air Defense Center in Massachusetts, US.
The Patriot air and missile defence system is a long-range, high-altitude, all-weather air and missile defence system that provides the warfighter with a reliable and lethal capability to defeat advanced threats.
