The Indian Army has issued a fresh global tender for acquiring over 400 towed artillery howitzers, the first such tender since the infamous Bofors deal.
According to the latest proposal, the deal would include procurement of 400 guns from foreign vendors and production of 1,000 indigenous guns in partnership with the chosen manufacturer.

About 145 ultra-light howitzers are likely to be procured from the US under the foreign military sales programme to increase its artillery inventory, according to Press Trust of India.
The army is also looking at inducting several types of howitzers through inter-governmental pacts and global tenders by the end of next year.
