The US Marine Corps Systems Command has awarded a delivery-order modification contract to GD Land Systems to provide upgrade kits for RG-31 Mk5E vehicles.

Under the $21.2m modification contract, upgrade kits will be provided for the vehicles, which were previously delivered by GD under the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle programme.

The kits will enhance the survivability and operation of the RG-31 vehicles to the latest production configuration.

The RG-31 Mk5E features an enhanced independent suspension system that improves vehicle mobility and ride comfort, improved crew comfort combined with ease of handling and a v-shaped hull for mine and IED protection.

The contract was signed through the Canadian Commercial Corporation, a Crown Agency of the Canadian Government, and delivery of the kits is expected to be completed by October 2011.
