Iran will claim compensation for the unilateral cancellation of the S-300 missile system, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said.
“Some countries thought that they can damage Iranian nation through illegal and unilateral cancellation of a defence deal. I proclaim that the contracts should be implemented, otherwise the Iranian nation will claim compensation for lack of its implementation,” he said.
The nation had threatened to sue Russia for not complying with its commitments on the agreement between the two sides, according to the Iranian Students News Agency.
Russia cancelled the bilateral contract with Iran, which was signed in 2007, due to the UN Security Council’s sanctions on the nation.
The S-300 air defence system is an advanced mobile system capable of shooting down aircraft and cruise missiles from a distance of 150km.
