Russia’s Armed Forces are all set to undergo three stages of transformation before the military reform ends in 2020, Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov has said.

The three stages of transformation involve organic staff measures, social issues and issues of armament, according to RIA Novosti.

The first phase of transformation has been completed with the strength of personnel being reduced to a million comprising 150,000 officers, 100,000-120,000 professional sergeants and the rest comprising of conscripts.

“Armament supplies are quite a long process. We have divided it into two parts. In the first stage, which will last until 2015, modern armaments in our army must comprise no less than 30%, while this figure must increase to 70% by 2020,” Serdyukov said.
