Rheinmetall Air Defence has secured a contract from the Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MoD) to deliver a two-digit quantity of Skyranger air defence systems for the Dutch armed forces.

The contract is valued in the high triple-digit millions of euros, with production and initial deliveries scheduled for the end of 2028 and concluding before the end of 2029.

Under this contract, Rheinmetall’s air defence arm is set to supply not only Skyranger weapon platforms but also tactical-level control nodes and hooklift transport platforms intended for stationary use.

The delivery scope further includes integration into the existing Dutch air defence architecture, classroom simulators for training purposes, and a logistics support package.

Rheinmetall will also undertake systems integration and support tasks as part of the arrangement.

A significant share of the added value will be created locally in the Netherlands, the company said.

Rheinmetall Air Defence managing director Oliver Dürr said: “We are grateful for the Dutch armed forces’ confidence in our capabilities. This latest order consolidates Rheinmetall’s position as the global market leader in the field of gun-based air defence. It also continues the success of the Skyranger 30.

“The configuration for the Dutch armed forces, which enables both highly mobile operations and stationary use without a carrier vehicle, is unique to date. Another NATO country has already expressed interest in this configuration.”

The Skyranger platform features a standard Skyranger 30 air defence turret mounted on a lower base.

This configuration enables deployment on an armoured combat support vehicle for mobile operations or fixed operation from ground positions without a carrier vehicle.

In addition to these core components, the order covers tactical command nodes and hooklift transport modules that support static deployment scenarios.

Rheinmetall’s Skyranger 30 is equipped with a 30 mm x 173 KCE revolver cannon and operates using integrated sensors, including tracking radar.

The system allows for future integration of other effectors, such as surface-to-air guided missiles.

Among its features is ammunition with a programmable airburst point of detonation designed for engaging aerial targets, including drones.

The modular hybrid design enables both autonomous and networked operation within broader air defence frameworks.

In June 2025, the Dutch MoD contracted Rheinmetall Defence Nederland to supply 20 Ermine vehicles to Ukrainian military forces.
