L3Harris Technologies has announced that it will launch a new radio at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2021.

Claimed to be the ‘industry’s smallest’, the multi-channel, multi-mission RF-7850D radio is thrice smaller in size compared to other multi-channel vehicular radios.

The event, which started on 21 February, is being held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and will run until 25 February.

L3Harris noted that the RF-7850D radio provides users with either two simultaneous 30MHz-512MHz channels, or an optional second 30MHz-2500MHz channel to provide coverage on a continuous basis.

The radio can be easily mounted in a low-profile chassis for vehicular use and is interoperable with Falcon II systems.

According to the company, the software-defined RF-7850D uses the time division multiple access (TDMA) Networking Waveform (TNW) family.

L3Harris Tactical Communications president Bryant Henson said: “The 7850D is the only radio in its class providing interoperability across every echelon of the battlefield, bridging communication from the tactical edge to the very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) mid-tier and the airborne tier.

“It is the ultimate in SWaP-reduced multi-channel communications for tactical vehicles and Tactical Operations Centres.”

The RF-7850D features the L3Harris Mission Module interface, additional technologies and other custom capabilities.

Last month, L3Harris Technologies secured two contracts with a combined value of $233m from the Australian Defence Force.
