Finland and Latvia have reached an agreement to develop a common armoured wheeled vehicle system.
A technical agreement for the development programme has been signed by Finland Defence Minister Antti Kaikkonen and Latvia counterpart Artis Pabriks.

Under the cooperation programme, a Patria 6×6 armoured wheeled vehicle chassis platform has been selected for the development.
The selection is based on national and multinational tests and evaluations, and is said to meet the set capability requirements.
Patria 6×6 platform is a terrain mobility vehicle. It has an efficient power unit with independent suspension similar to the Patria AMV vehicle.
Patria Land business unit president Jussi Järvinen said: “This is an important opening for us, and we hope to see this new vehicle version in production as part of this programme. Patria 6×6 vehicle is our top-notch product combining excellent terrain mobility and ease of use.

The common vehicle system will improve supply mobility, interoperability, cost-efficiency and security for the participating nations’ armies.
Currently, the agreement is between Finland and Latvia. However, future phases of the development programme are open to other countries.
Cost-sharing agreement with schedule and technical specification has also been agreed by the participating nations.
Research and product developmental will be followed by the preparation of a combined product development agreement.
Definite procurement acquisitions are yet to be decided and might extend over a number of years.
The delivery of the vehicles may commence in 2021.
In December, a letter of intent was signed between Latvia, Finland and Estonia.
