The MoD has selected the CDM-625A Advanced Satellite Modem following a request for proposal (RFP) process, and a technical evaluation and testing.

Under the initial order worth $1.1m, the company will deliver several SCPC modems and complementary redundancy switches.

The equipment is part of the MoD’s extensive network upgrade and expansion. The number of units can increase to more than 2,000.

Comtech Telecommunications Board chairman and CEO Fred Kornberg said: “We are pleased that this MoD has confidence in Comtech to continue supplying equipment to support a network upgrade that enables mission-critical and inter-office communications, high-speed video conferencing and VoIP with a potential ten-fold expansion.

“The order is a testament to our technical and commercial leadership in solutions for international governments that are feature-rich, future-proof and field-proven.”

Based on its interoperability with the earlier platform version, the CDM-625A modem has been chosen to offer maximum bandwidth efficiencies.

It features DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression and VersaFEC-2 forward error correction, as well as flexible management functionality including SNMP v2 and v3.

Earlier this year, Comtech EF Data secured an order from a major US Department of Defense (DoD) contractor for satellite modems.

Based in Arizona, Comtech EF Data is a part of Comtech’s Commercial Solutions segment.
