Armaments Research Company (ARC) has received the first and third task orders under a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase III indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract.
Last month, ARC won the new five-year, $60m IDIQ contract from the US Department of Defense (DoD) and General Services Administration (GSA).
The task orders are the first projects to be delivered under the award.
These projects will focus on integrating data from the company’s miniaturised artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled edge computing sensors with other battlefield data sources.
This fusion will enable the transfer of decision-quality information to tactical forces via mobile and mixed reality platforms.
The Phase III SBIR contract is part of the US Army’s ‘Joint All-Domain Command and Control’ (JADC2) project portfolio.

By GlobalDataIt is a continuation of the ARC’s AI-based weapon-sensing technology development undertaken for the DoD and GSA.
ARC chief executive officer Michael Canty said: “The most exciting and rewarding aspect of this project is its origin.
“This project began with soldier-centric design: Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and conventional force end-users collaborating with us to create features that would solve their pain points.
“Fortunately, army programme offices found value in that approach.”
In addition, the projects will use machine learning (ML) to develop rich data insights and optimise sharing of information among troops.
This effort is to ensure that the correct information is transmitted to the right soldier at the right time through the right medium.
ARC’s solutions were developed under DARPA and National Science Foundation sponsorship, using advanced internet-of-things (IoT) and ML technologies.
