AeroGlow International has secured a contract to supply the HaLO Vehicle Emergency Lighting Systems (VELS) for the British Army’s Boxer vehicles.

The bespoke version of the VELS systems will be supplied as part of the Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme.

Under the $2.82m (£2m) contract, AeroGlow will deliver the HaLO system for 275 Boxer vehicles, with deliveries starting this year and running through the next ten years.

AeroGlow is a provider of emergency escape lighting (EELS/VELS) for military vehicles. The latest contract will sustain jobs at its Salisbury site.

HaLO’s features include an integrated, sealed-for-life capacitor pack. With this pack, the system doesn’t have to rely on vehicle power during an emergency.

The system also features water, blast and roll-over sensors and is resistant against vibration, water and dust.

In 2019, a £2.3bn MIV contract was awarded to a joint venture (JV) between Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) Artec.

The MIV programme seeks to deliver over 500 Boxer armoured vehicles in different versions to the British Army.

Production has been subcontracted equally between two companies, Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) and WFEL.

AeroGlow International Business Development director Keith White said: “We are delighted that the latest version of HaLO, featuring our Capacitor Pack power supply, has been chosen by Rheinmetall and RBSL for the Boxer platform.

“With the contract set to run for ten years, this ensures the employment of our staff and our suppliers’ staff for the long term.

“AeroGlow International looks forward to providing the egress lighting systems, recognised as safety critical by both our customers and the end-user.

“Having HaLO fitted to Boxer and other UK MOD core vehicle programmes will ensure the mitigation of drowning and egress risks for British military personnel for the foreseeable future.”

Boxer is an 8×8 multirole armoured vehicle (MRAV) managed by the European Armaments Agency, Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR).
