Notably, Architecture and Engineering Occupations jobs accounted for an 18% share of the global aerospace, defence and security industry’s environmental sustainability-related total new job postings in Q2 2023, down 13% over the prior quarter.

Architecture and Engineering Occupations drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 18%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2023, with new job postings drop by 13% quarter-on-quarter. Computer and Mathematical Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q2 2023, with new job postings dropping by 17% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q2 2023, Production Occupations with a 8% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in aerospace, defence and security industry accounted for 38% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2023 were RTX, CAE, Teledyne FLIR, Leidos, and Northrop Grumman. Together they accounted for a combined share of 38% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the aerospace, defence and security industry.

RTX posted 960 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q2 2023, CAE 632 jobs, Teledyne FLIR 599 jobs, Leidos 432 jobs, and Northrop Grumman 342 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 63.70% share of total new job postings, Q2 2023

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2023 was in the US with 63.70% followed by the UK (12.09%) and Canada (7.57%). The share represented by the US was ten percentage points lower than the 74.04% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
