The UK’s apparel industry registered a 10.7% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 4.26% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the apparel industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.53% share in October 2021, recording a decrease of 0.81% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s apparel industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.07% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry in October 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 65.12% in October 2021, registering a 39.39% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 13.02% share, an increase of 12% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 12.56%, registering a flat growth from September 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 6.51%, up 16.67% over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 26.17% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Amazon posted 88 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 37.59% over the previous month, followed by ASOS with 25 jobs and an 8.7% growth. John Lewis Partnership with 16 IT jobs and Marks and Spencer Group with 15 jobs, recorded a 33.33% decline and a 25% flat growth, respectively, while Walgreens Boots Alliance recorded a flat growth with 14 job postings during October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 67.44%, down by 35.84% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with an 18.14% share, registered a decline of 36.07% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 14.42% share, up 10.71% over September 2021.
