North America witnessed a 20.9% rise in IT hiring activity in the auto industry in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2021 has seen an increase of 5.79% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 9.41% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering an increase of 1.39% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 68.37% in September 2021, a 62.43% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 13.87% in September 2021, marking a 47.33% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 8.52% in September 2021, a 33.9% rise from August 2021.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 4.49% in September 2021, a 3.85% decline over the previous month.

Top five auto companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 87.23% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s auto industry during September 2021 over previous month.

General Motors posted 897 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered an increase of 80.12% over the previous month, followed by Rivian Automotive with 603 jobs and a flat growth. Dana with 325 IT jobs and Robert Bosch with 100 jobs, recorded a 15.14% drop and a 3.85% drop, respectively, while Tesla recorded a 3.13% increase with 99 job postings during September 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s auto industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s auto industry IT hiring activity with a 91.27% share in September 2021, a 51.13% increase over August 2021. Mexico featured next with a 5% share, up 28.7% over the previous month. Canada recorded a 3.67% share, a growth of 27.5% compared with August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 59.92%, up by 48.84% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 26.06% share, registered a growth of 53.28% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 14.02% share, up 42.34% over August 2021.
