October 2021 has seen a decrease of 1.17% in the overall hiring activity when compared with September 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 9.07% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in October 2021, registering an increase of 0.44% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in October 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 63.21% in October 2021, a 41.73% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 14.02% in October 2021, marking a 34.35% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 9.13% in October 2021, a 30.86% drop from September 2021.

Top five auto companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 46.12% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s auto industry during October 2021 over previous month.

General Motors posted 510 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a decline of 45.51% over the previous month, followed by Dana with 283 jobs and a 12.92% drop. Robert Bosch with 131 IT jobs and Tesla with 117 jobs, recorded a 29.7% rise and a 17% rise, respectively, while Rivian Automotive recorded an 86.58% decline with 84 job postings during October 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s auto industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s auto industry IT hiring activity with an 89.4% share in October 2021, a 37.81% decrease over September 2021. Mexico featured next with a 6.2% share, down 21.92% over the previous month. Canada recorded a 4.29% share, a drop of 26.85% compared with September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.23%, down by 34.08% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with a 24.18% share, registered a decline of 41.52% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 13.42% share, down 38.71% over September 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.16%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
