Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is ten years old. Moscow’s initial occupation of the country began on the 27th February 2014. This invasion resulted in Russia seizing Ukraine’s southern Crimea region and parts of its eastern Donbas area. Russia commenced a second invasion on 21st February but failed in its attempt to occupy the rest of Ukraine. The Russian military's attempt to capture Kyiv and install a puppet government ended in failure. As of August 2024, Russia controls circa 18% of Ukraine’s territory
