The global apparel industry noticed a 0.4% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by Amazon’s 43.31% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The apparel industry’s overall hiring activity increased by 3.41% when compared with June 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.98% share of the global apparel industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, up 0.06% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 1.17% lower compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 4.3% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 73.09% emerged as the top IT occupation in the apparel hiring activity in July 2021, a 10.87% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 9.89% in July 2021, up 23.45% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 5.79% share in July 2021, decline of 1.54% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 4.32% share in July 2021 and rise of 36.92% over June 2021.
Top five apparel companies by recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 2.84% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global apparel industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
Amazon posted 3,828 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 13.63% over the previous month, followed by Robert Bosch with 829 jobs and a 33.49% rise. Walmart with 446 IT jobs and Danaher with 420 jobs, recorded a 1.13% increase and a 70.73% growth, respectively, while J Sainsbury recorded a 14.11% growth with 364 job postings during July 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in apparel industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global apparel IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 63.27% share, which marked a 5.94% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 17.81%, registering a 1.07% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 17.04% share and a 9.22% decline over June 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.18% and a month-on-month growth of 16.85%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.71%, registering a 5.97% drop over the previous month.
