The US Army’s Delta Battery, 2nd Air Defense Regiment (D-2), Combined Task Force Defender, 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade has conducted the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile redistribution exercise.

The training exercise was carried out in the Republic of Korea for the first time. It demonstrated the commitment of the soldiers from the D-2 Battery to mission readiness in defending the Korean peninsula.

During the exercise, soldiers executed the constitution of several THAAD interceptors for three days.

The THAAD Battery crew employed missile reconstitution and de-constitution procedures of the missile round pallets (MRPs).

It involved executing a convoy of two THAAD launchers and guard up-armoured HWMMVs on the Korean highways.

Using additional equipment such as a 16K forklift and a crane, soldiers safely removed the THAAD interceptors from storage and reconstituted the live interceptors to configure the MRPs.

The mission was supported by ten soldiers, quality assurance specialist ammunition surveillance / ammunition civilians personnel of 52nd Ordnance Company, 6th Ordnance Battalion, and subject-matter-expert contractors.

The training follows after D-2 Battery’s Patriot system counterparts of 2-1 ADA Battalion performed bi-annual Storage Combat Load (SCL) retrieval exercises.

The THAAD weapon system is capable of intercepting exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric threats. It can be easily transported and is used to combat hostile threats such as tactical and theatre ballistic missiles at ranges of 200km and altitudes of up to 150km.
