The US Army has awarded an order to Comtech Telecommunications’ Command and Control Technologies group for the immediate delivery of a large number of next-generation MT-2025 mobile satellite transceivers to support the army’s Blue Force Tracking-2 (BFT-2) system.

The initial $11.7m order has been awarded to the company through its US-based subsidiary Comtech Mobile Datacom. It is a part of the parent company’s Government Solutions segment.

The Command and Control Technologies group of the company focuses on providing mission-critical, highly-mobile command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions.

The MT-2025 meets BFT-2 protocols and offers enhanced reliability, in addition to being fully backward compatible with the US Army’s Blue-Force Tracking-1 system (BFT-1).

It is also known as the Blue Force Tracker-2 High Capacity (BFT-2-HC) satellite transceiver.

Comtech Telecommunications president and chief executive officer Fred Kornberg said: “The army has Comtech’s full commitment in supporting both the BFT-1 and BFT-2 requirements. I look forward to delivering this initial and other orders well into the future.”

Production work will be carried out at Comtech’s high-volume technology development centre in Tempe, Arizona.

The company is expecting additional orders and it intends to start deliveries of the current order during the second half of the fiscal year 2018.

To date, Comtech Telecommunications has delivered more than 100,000 BFT-1 mobile satellite transceivers.
