Under this partnership, Rheinmetall will integrate Varjo’s XR-4 Series headsets into its modular driving and weapons simulation systems.

This will allow military forces to train larger numbers of personnel in various locations and at a tempo that aligns with current security requirements.

Rheinmetall’s simulation units are designed for mobility, allowing transport and setup directly in the field.

The modular design incorporates cockpit inserts that can be exchanged within minutes, enabling the simulators to represent different vehicle types as needed.

With the incorporation of Varjo’s mixed reality technology, users can experience training sessions that combine physical and synthetic.

Training with this system enables personnel to operate real hardware while being immersed in simulated virtual terrains, intended to replicate the conditions encountered during actual missions.

The Varjo XR-4 Series headsets are designed for use across land, air, and sea training environments.

They provide visual resolution, passthrough vision capability, and eye tracking features.

These technologies allow instructors to monitor how trainees interact with simulation instruments, maintain situational awareness, and respond under operational stress conditions.

Rheinmetall Electronics training systems land vice president Bartek Panasewicz said: “Mixed reality gives us the flexibility to train large numbers of soldiers where they are needed, without compromising on the quality or realism of the experience. Varjo’s industry-leading XR technology, combined with Rheinmetall’s top-of-the-line simulators, allows soldiers to scale realistic, high-fidelity training anywhere from central bases to temporary training sites.”

Rheinmetall and Varjo plan to present their collaborative training solutions at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Florida, from 1–4 December 2025 at booth number 2301.
