A Black Hawk helicopter has crashed in northern Iraq, killing 14 US soldiers.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but it is thought to have been caused by a mechanical malfunction, a US statement says.

The four crew members and ten soldiers were part of Task Force Lightening, a US division responsible for a large area of northern Iraq.

The exact location of the crash has not been disclosed.
