The first mandatory brain-function tests are being carried out at the US 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell where thousands of troops are taking basic tests in maths, matching numbers and symbols and identifying patterns, reports the Associated Press.
The US Government Accountability Office is investigating reports that as many as 40 soldiers at Colorado’s Fort Carson were misdiagnosed with personality disorders after suffering brain damage or stress-related injuries.
The tests are expected to spread to other military bases in the next couple of months, where commanders will decide whether to adopt the programme.
