US robotics firm Sarcos has announced it is has begun tests on a prototype exoskeleton after winning a contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

The exoskeleton will allow soldiers to exceed their endurance barriers.

The prototype uses an engine to drive hydraulic fluid through high-pressure lines, amplifying the motion created by its user.

Sarcos beat 13 other firms to win the DARPA contract.

The exoskeleton should be ready by 2008.
