European defence companies EADS and Sagem Défense Sécurité have been awarded a contract from armasuisse for the prototype phases of the IMESS future solider modernisation programme.

The contract includes a first development phase plus options for series productions worth €120m.

The prototype phase will be finalised on September 2008 followed by an optional industrialisation phase in 2009 and optional production phase in 2010 and 2014.

IMESS is a modernisation programme for the Swiss army’s fighting capabilities, from soldier to platoon level.
