South Korea’s Agency for Defense Development (ADD) has completed work on a military satellite system that will form part of the SPIDER tactical communications network.

The system will allow South Korean forces to communicate within an area radius of 6,000km, an improvement on the current 100km transmission radius.

Head of the development team at the ADD Lee Sang-Guk says the system will help the military conduct operations effectively by enabling shared battlefield information in real time, according to The Korea Times.

The new system uses the Mugunghwa-5 satellite, which was launched in August last year.
