The Indonesian National Defence Force (TNI) is planning to increase the annual budget for the maintenance of main armaments to $68m from $58m, according to
Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono.
The defence minister said that increasing the budget for the maintenance and preservation of military hardware was important to support defence operations.

“Ideally, the budget for the maintenance of the TNI’s main arsenal should be 20% to 25% of the entire defence budget,” said Sudarsono.
The proposal significantly improves TNI’s military hardware and armour which is up to 20 years old.
The defence sector budget for 2009 is IDR32tn and less than 10% of the amount was destined for military hardware maintenance and preservation.
