Twenty more RG32 vehicles fitted with machine guns are to be sent to Afghanistan to support the Swedish Army’s operational mentoring and liaison teams (OMLT).

The RG32 is a light armoured five-seater patrol vehicle protected from grenades, ammunitions, anti-personnel mines, fire bombs and side bombs.

The OMLT is a group of officers and soldiers of the Swedish Armed forces who act as mentors to the Afghan Army and provide support to commanders at corps, brigade and battalion levels.

The descision to dispatch the RG32 vehicles to Afghanistan was made last year by the army tactical support staff (ATS).

The Swedish Armed forces deployed in Afghanistan currently have around 15 vehicles in service.

The forces are located at Camp Mike Spann, 12km south-west of Mazar-e-Sharif.
