The global communications solutions (GCS) division of L-3 Communications has received a follow-on contract valued at $42.5m from Eyak Technology for 970 combat service support very-small-aperture terminals (VSATs).

VSAT systems are small satellite terminals that can be used to establish a private communication network as well as relay information in support of US Army forces and other tactical and logistics units in theatre.

The delivery of VSAT systems support is expected to be complete by October 2010 with an estimated 3,350 systems delivered to the army.

The support work will be carried out at L-3 GCS headquarters in Victor, New York.
