BAE Systems has received a $89m contract from AM General to supply vehicle emergency escape (VEE) windows for new production M1151 mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWV).

The patent-pending VEE window technology enables soldiers with no previous training to quickly exit the vehicle in the event of an emergency by releasing and pushing out the front window.

This indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity contract increases the total orders for VEE window kits to over 29,000 with more than 10,000 kits already delivered for the up-armoured M1114 and M1151 HMMWVs.

The VEE window forms a part of the army’s fragmentation kit seven (FRAG 7), which is a set of survivability upgrades to the M1151 HMMWVs, currently being used in combat zones such as Afghanistan.

The work on the VEE window will be carried out by BAE Systems at its industrial partner facilities in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
