The US Army has contracted ship management and technical services company Maersk Line Limited for the Care of Supplies in Storage of its watercraft.

Under the contract, the company will be responsible for the maintenance and readiness of watercraft, including barges, tugs and various boats based in Yokohama, Japan.

The US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) manages the Army’s watercraft programme as part as its mission to provide and sustain mobility. The Army has about 300 watercraft of various classes in its fleet.

The contract, awarded by the Army Sustainment Command, has a nine-month base period with four one-year options.
