The South Korean Army has received the first of six artillery-hunting radar (ARTHUR) systems from Sweden-based SAAB.

ARTHUR is a mobile weapon-locating radar system that will be used by South Korean soldiers to detect rocket launches from North Korea’s long-range artillery deployed near the inter-Korean border.

The new radar systems will replace the US-built AN/TPQ-36/37 radar systems currently in service with the South Korean Army.

With the new hunting radar system, the soldiers can promptly locate guns that are firing artillery shells, and transmit the data to command-and-control systems within seconds.
