Russia’s first military satellite launched in 2010 has successfully entered orbit, according to the Russian Defence Ministry.
The satellite was launched aboard a Proton-M heavy carrier rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The Russian Space Forces spokesman Alexei Zolotukhin said the satellite had successfully separated from the rocket.
“Contact is steady, and the onboard equipment is operating well,” Zolotukhin said.
Space Forces Commander Oleg Ostapenko described the satellite as a new project that will help significantly increase the capabilities of the space communication system.
Russia runs a network of approximately 70 military satellites capable of reconnaissance and missile early warnings, according to news agency Rianovosti.
