The decision comes after a four-month evaluation by the army on whether or not the current camouflage pattern was effective for Afghan operations.

The selection culminates the third phase of a four-phase plan to evaluate camouflage alternatives.

During the evaluation in the third phase, the army compared six patterns against eight different environments along with surveys of soldiers in the two battalions who received alternate camouflage sets.

The final phase will evaluate long-term army combat uniform camouflage options for all soldiers.
