BAE Systems will equip 2,399 mine-resistant, ambush-protected all-terrain vehicles (M-ATV) with thermal cameras under a $45m contract awarded by Oshkosh Corporation.

The BAE-manufactured Check-6 system features infrared camera systems installed inside the vehicles’ tail-light housings to provide visibility in daylight, darkness and adverse weather.

BAE Systems programme manager Jamie Adair said the ability to see outside the vehicle provided an important increase in situational awareness and safety for the occupants of vehicles, who frequently travel in very dangerous territory.

Derived from the medium tactical vehicle replacement platform, the Oshkosh M-ATV for the US Armed Forces incorporates the proprietary TAK-4 independent suspension system with battle-tested technology.
