Parsons has been awarded a new task order to carry out remedial investigations and feasibility studies at the US Army National Guard’s (ARNG) multiple facilities.

Awarded by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, the firm-fixed price task order has an estimated value of $28m.

It has been awarded as part of the Emerging Environmental Requirements Acquisition (EERA) contract of the US Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville.

The performance period of the new award is eight and a half years.

Work under the new task order involves conducting remedial investigations and feasibility studies across a total of 16 ARNG installations.

According to the company, aqueous films forming foam and other per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been observed at the installations.

The company is intending to explore the nature and extent of PFAS, as well as its impact on the soil, surface, and ground water of the 16 facilities, located in 12 different states.

In addition, Parsons will work to recognise, assess, and provide potential alternatives to reverse the impact of PFAS.

The contract also includes an additional option to include five more ARNG installations.

This work will provide community relations, support clean drinking water availability, and will also involve the designing and installation of required point of entry drinking water systems.

Parsons engineered systems business unit president Jon Moretta said: “PFAS has emerged as one of today’s most significant environmental issues, widely detected in soil, groundwater, and surface water.

“Our team has comprehensive experience investigating, mitigating, and remediating PFAS associated with a wide variety of industries, from plastics and fabric manufacturing to firefighting foam.”

Last year in November, Parsons received a multiple-award task order contract from the USACE Sacramento District for environmental remediation at different sites.
