The German Army has opened a new improvised explosive device (IED) information and research centre at Boeselager Army Base in Grafschaft.

The new research centre, called Counter IED, is designed to protect German forces against Taliban-planted IEDs in Afghanistan, according to dw-world.de.

German troops in Afghanistan will be able to contact counter-IED specialists at the centre to get immediate advice if they discover an IED in the field.
