DRS Technologies will manufacture new M1000 heavy equipment transporter (HET) trailers for the US Army under a $94m contract.

The M1000 HET is specifically designed to transport the M1 Abrams main battle tank over primary and secondary roads or cross-country over rough terrain.

The trailer is flexible enough to carry several variants of tracked and wheeled vehicles, containers and large bulk cargo weighing almost 70t.

Production work will be carried out at the company’s heavy manufacturing facility in West Plains, Missouri.

The contract was awarded by the US Army product manager for heavy tactical vehicles at the TACOM Lifecycle Management Command in Warren, Michigan.
